Park Alerts ( 4 Alerts )

  • A tentative drawdown of Pinchot Lake has been scheduled to begin on September 17, 2018.  Planned work that will occur during the drawdown includes: improved access for swimmers at the Quaker Race Day Use Area, an improved ADA fishing area in Quaker Race, installation of a headwall for a future accessible dock system for kayaks and canoes, rehabilitation of the headwall in Boat Launch Area #3, and installation of a new dock system for the park's pontoon and patrol boats.  Please note:  the announced date to begin the drawdown is a target date and may be delayed.  The reason for the possible delay is that we are in the early stages of the design work and the exact date to start the project can't be determined at this time.  After the project's completion, the level of the lake's water will be returned to normal pool.  We apologize for any inconvenience that the drawdown may cause.  The goal of the planned projects is to enhance visitor access and enjoyment of Pinchot Lake.

  • General Firewood Quarantine: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has enacted a quarantine order for untreated firewood of any kind coming into the state. Any firewood brought into the state must be kiln dried, heat treated, fumigated, and/or USDA Certified.

To protect the high quality and native character of our State Parks from exotic invasive species DCNR highly encourages all visitors to:

    • burn/buy locally cut firewood (within 25 miles)

    • BURN ALL firewood brought from another area. Do not leave it. Do not take it with you.

    • Encourage friends and neighbors not to move firewood

    • Do not remove firewood from a Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine Area. Contact the PA Department of Agriculture, www.agriculture.pa.gov and search on the keyword Spotted Lantern Fly for current quarantine information.

  • Contrary to the information on Google, Pennsylvania state parks are open every day of the year. Day use areas close at dusk. Park offices are open specific hours. Pools, beaches, and campgrounds are open specific seasons.
  • Gifford Pinchot is open from 8:00 am to sunset daily for visitors to enjoy. Please be advised that anyone doing a Google search of Gifford Pinchot will see incorrect information regarding the park hours. Google has the park listed as "Closed now". If anyone has any questions please contact the park office at (717) 432-5011 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
