Park Alerts ( 6 Alerts )

  • The fountain plaza at Point State Park, as well as the lower wharves along the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, continues to be covered in mud and other debris resulting from flooding and high wind events today. Please use caution while walking, running, or biking through the park and be mindful of the mud you may carry with you to other locations. If you experience or encounter an emergency while in the park, please call 911.

  • The accessible kayak launch in Point State Park is scheduled to be installed in the Allegheny River near the Fort Duquesne Bridge in mid to late May. This advisory will be updated when the launch has been installed and is ready for use.

  • General Firewood Quarantine: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has enacted a quarantine order for untreated firewood of any kind coming into the state. Any firewood brought into the state must be kiln dried, heat treated, fumigated, and/or USDA Certified.

To protect the high quality and native character of our State Parks from exotic invasive species DCNR highly encourages all visitors to:

    • burn/buy locally cut firewood (within 25 miles)

    • BURN ALL firewood brought from another area. Do not leave it. Do not take it with you.

    • Encourage friends and neighbors not to move firewood

    • Do not remove firewood from a Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine Area. Contact the PA Department of Agriculture, www.agriculture.pa.gov and search on the keyword Spotted Lantern Fly for current quarantine information.

  • The 2017 operating season for the Fountain at Point State Park will end at 11:00 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2017 (Veterans Day). The fountain system will be drained and winterized as a part of our routine winter maintenance. Fountain operations will resume in Spring 2018. If you have any questions, please contact the park office at 412-565-2850.

  • Contrary to some information found online, there is no fee to enter Point State Park, which is open from sunrise until 11 pm daily. Point is a day-use only park and has no swimming or camping facilities.

  • Contrary to the information on Google, Pennsylvania state parks are open every day of the year. Day use areas close at dusk. Park offices are open specific hours. Pools, beaches, and campgrounds are open specific seasons.
