Park Alerts ( 2 Alerts )

  • A recent severe storm caused many large trees to topple onto trails throughout the park.  Many of the most heavily impacted trails have just recently been cleared (Hemlock, Cook, Rhododendron, Indian, Longfellow).  The Joyce Kilmer trail still has several areas that have not yet been cleared.

Trail users should proceed with caution due to the possibility of downed trees, washouts, and missing or damaged trail bridges from recent storms. Please reports problems to the park office 814-744-8407

  • Contrary to the information on Google, Pennsylvania state parks are open every day of the year. Day use areas close at dusk. Park offices are open specific hours. Pools, beaches, and campgrounds are open specific seasons.

Park Description

The 8,500-acre Cook Forest State Park lies in scenic northwestern Pennsylvania. Once called the “Black Forest,” the area is famous for its stands of old growth forest. Cook Forest’s “Forest Cathedral” of towering white pines and hemlocks is a National Natural Landmark. The Clarion River connects Clear Creek State Park to Cook Forest State Park along a scenic 10-mile stretch of river which is popular for canoeing and rafting.
