Park Alerts ( 6 Alerts )

  • Travel Advisory - Starting August 6th 2018, West Branch Township will be conducting road maintenance on Lyman Run Road west of Lyman Lake in conjunction with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation doing chipping and sealing of West Branch Road south of the Lyman Run Road/West Branch Road intersection.  It is strongly encouraged to enter the park from the east end of the park on Lyman Run Road using the West Branch Road from Galeton.

If coming from the south, enter Galeton from PA Route 144 N from the Carter Camp intersection.  Continue on PA Route 144 until reaching Galeton then make a left hand turn, at the light, onto PA Route 6 West.  Make the first left hand turn onto West Street. West Street will turn into West Branch Road, continue 6 miles making a right hand turn onto Lyman Run Road and continue two miles into the park.  Park Office road will be on your right.

If coming from the West, remain on PA Route 6 until entering Galeton, make the first right hand turn in Galeton onto West Street. West Street will turn into West Branch Road, continue 6 miles making a right hand turn onto Lyman Run Road and continue two miles into the park.  Park Office road will be on your right.

  • Beginning in Spring of 2019, the Bureau of State Parks will be conducting a Pilot Program at the Lyman Run State Park Lower Campground. Starting on the Friday before Memorial Day through the last Sunday in September, campers using campsites in the Lower Campground will be able to drive ATV’s on the campground road. This will provide direct access to the Susquehannock State Forest ATV trail system at the Lyman Trailhead, located 3/4 mile from the campground up Lyman Run Road.  Lyman Run Road is a township road that is open to ATV traffic. This pilot program will run for two seasons starting in 2019 through 2020, after which it will be evaluated.

All operators must possess a valid Driver’s License to drive on the campground road and make the connection to the trailhead from Lyman Run Road. DCNR ATV Riding Rules and Regulations will apply, and can be found at: http://www.dcnr.pa.gov/Recreation/WhatToDo/ATVRiding/RidingRulesandEnforcement/Pages/default.aspx

  • With the opening of the Bureau of Forestry's Susquehannock ATV Trail, this is a reminder that the Daggett Campground Road, Lower Campground Road and Day Use Area to include parking lots are not designated as Joint Use roads and therefore are not permitted for ATV use.  The Lyman Lake Dam breast parking area is open for ATV parking so users may utilize the beach, beach house restrooms, and the beach concession.  For more information please click on the "ATV Riding" link at the top of the page or goto http://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateForests/FindAForest/Susquehannock/Pages/ATVRiding.aspx for more information.

  • Seasons and Hours: Contrary to the information on Google, Pennsylvania state parks are open every day of the year. Day use areas close at dusk. Park offices are open specific hours. Pools, beaches, and campgrounds are open specific seasons.

  • Drone Restrictions: To protect park resources, limit conflict with other park users, and avoid safety and privacy liabilities, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), remotely piloted vehicles (RPV) or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), all commonly referred to as DRONES, are only permitted on designated flying fields in six remote controlled airfield parks (Beltsville, Benjamin Rush, Hillman, Lackawanna, Prompton, and Tuscarora). Drones are only permitted in other PA State Parks in very limited circumstances which require a special use permit.

  • General Firewood Quarantine: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has enacted a quarantine order for untreated firewood of any kind coming into the state. Any firewood brought into the state must be kiln dried, heat treated, fumigated, and/or USDA Certified.

To protect the high quality and native character of our State Parks from exotic invasive species DCNR highly encourages all visitors to:

    • burn/buy locally cut firewood (within 25 miles)

    • BURN ALL firewood brought from another area. Do not leave it. Do not take it with you.

    • Encourage friends and neighbors not to move firewood

    • Do not remove firewood from a Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine Area. Contact the PA Department of Agriculture, www.agriculture.pa.gov and search on the keyword Spotted Lantern Fly for current quarantine information.
