Park Alerts ( 4 Alerts )

  • Road Closure / Limited Access to Colton Point State Park.

Beginning March 22, 2018, the Tioga State Forest will be removing hazardous trees along the Colton Road (main park road).  This road will be closed from Ansonia to Barbour Rock until the hazardous trees have been removed.  The road will be closed from 7 AM to 5 PM, Monday-Friday.  DCNR expects to complete this project by March 30, 2018.  For more information contact DCNR Bureau of Forestry, Tioga State Forest at (570) 724-2868.

During the road closure an alternate route to Colton Point may be open, depending on road and weather conditions, by accessing the Deadman Hollow Road (dirt road) via the Rexford Bridge at the intersection State Route 6 in Gaines Township.

  • The Leonard Harrison overlook is open but not maintained, you may proceed to the overlook at your own risk.  *** The Turkey Path Trail and Overlook Trail at Leonard Harrison State Park and the Turkey Path Trail at Colton Point State Park will be closed during the winter months from the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to the second Friday in April.***

  • General Firewood Quarantine: Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has enacted a quarantine order for untreated firewood of any kind coming into the state. Any firewood brought into the state must be kiln dried, heat treated, fumigated, and/or USDA Certified.

To protect the high quality and native character of our State Parks from exotic invasive species DCNR highly encourages all visitors to:

    • burn/buy locally cut firewood (within 25 miles)

    • BURN ALL firewood brought from another area. Do not leave it. Do not take it with you.

    • Encourage friends and neighbors not to move firewood

    • Do not remove firewood from a Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine Area. Contact the PA Department of Agriculture, www.agriculture.pa.gov and search on the keyword Spotted Lantern Fly for current quarantine information.

  • Contrary to the information on Google, Pennsylvania state parks are open every day of the year. Day use areas close at dusk. Park offices are open specific hours. Pools, beaches, and campgrounds are open specific seasons.

Park Description

On the west rim of Pine Creek Gorge, the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, the 368-acre Colton Point State Park resonates with the rustic charm of the Civilian Conservation Corps era of the 1930s. The rugged overlooks offer great views of the canyon. On the other side of the canyon is Leonard Harrison State Park.
